Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve
39400 Clinton Keith Rd., Murrieta CA 92562; Tel. 909.677.6951
Open every day from sunrise to sunset, the Santa Rosa Plateau Ecologocal Reserve is protected down to every last rock. A plateau rising 2000 feet, the Santa Rosa plateau is an ecological wonder, alive with ancient oak woodlands, shallow vernal pools supporting thriving bird communities and rare grasses and sages. Once a temperate home to the Luiseno Native Americans, the plateau went the way of so many prime lands to become a cattle ranch. Today, bobcats, mule deer, mountain lions, coyote and many more indigenous species inhabit the preserve. Hiking is allowed on trails, and mountain bikes and horses are allowed on specified multi-use trails.
